Overview

Bikini Bottom is an under water town located beneath a tiny island which is recognisable by the bent palm tree. It's the residency for nearly all characters ever portray in SpongeBob Squarepants and comprises a lot of different sea creature's homes. It's no different to any surface city comprising such things as a learn to drive school or fast food places. In fact, it even has a beach!

The town attitude is very laid back, an influence of the Hawaiin "laid back" nature. It's a place where a whale can be friends with a sponge or a squirrel with a starfish. If it wasn't for the antics of SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick it'd probably be the perfect place to live, albeit a lot less fun!

Location

According to creator Stephen Hillenburg, Bikini Bottom is located in the Pacific Ocean, around Bikini Atoll. The show gives proof, the instances of which are listed below:

• In the episode Pranks A Lot, Sandy evacuates to Texas after being scared by ghosts (Spongebob and Patrick). She is seen flying in from Texas's west, from the Pacific Ocean.
• In the game Employee of the Month, a fish states that Bikini bottom (and it's neighbouring cities) are located in the Pacific Ocean.
• During the "Goofy Goober Rock" in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, when the camera is shown rising out of the water and into Outer Space, it is shown coming out of the Pacific Ocean.
